A Summer Update from the Grounds Department

Aug 25, 2020Craig McKinley

Blog Post By: Craig McKinley, Golf Course Superintendent

What a great summer it has been for golf in Mid-Michigan. There has been an abundance of sunshine and warm days for our guests to come play at Bucks Run. The Grounds Staff has been busy making sure the golf course is in great shape for your rounds. While the past two months have been primarily focused on keeping the turf healthy (through what has been a warmer and dryer than normal year), our Staff has been able to knock-out a couple of great "detail" projects.

Projects on Hole #2, #3, #5, #6

The Men’s Tee surround on Hole #2 was root pruned, and new sod was laid where trees have begun to negatively affect the turf. We also found some beautiful boulders to place along the cart turn-about, in order to keep cart traffic off of this area. Our Staff also did a great job carrying out the same process on Hole #3's Championship Tee.

The areas on #5 and #6, where stands of trees were removed, have also established themselves nicely. The areas on #3 that struggled to take during last month will be re-seeded and straw matted this coming week. While these areas continue to establish, which will be a little longer than normal since these spots are naturally high traffic areas, please make sure to take a drop outside of the ropes.

Staff Thank You

I also wanted to take this time to thank our Staff for the hard work and dedication that has been on display this season. During a summer that has been quite out of the ordinary, they have continued to show what makes Bucks Run special...which is the people. They continually go above and beyond, with early mornings and working in tough weather conditions to make sure that this property delivers great golfing memories. They truly are the motor which makes this place run, and for them, I am grateful.

With that, I hope that we see you out on the golf course soon, and please remember to fix your ball marks and replace your divots.
