The past year and half have proven challenging for both members of the community and our area restaurants. Because of that, various groups in the Midland Community wanted to do something to help. The Midland Business Alliance (MBA) and the Midland Area Community Foundation (MACF) teamed-up to launch a new program, called ReGrow Midland.
ReGrow Midland was created with a goal of providing healthy meal options, made by locally-owned restaurants, to families throughout our community. Meals created in connection with this program are distributed to various centers around Midland County, where families experiencing food insecurity can pick-up a meal. Only a simple $2 donation is requested, but not mandatory. In return, restaurants are seeing a benefit from the program by receiving a consistent, monthly revenue and the ability to retain their workforce because of steady demand. Fully beginning the process of re-growing business again.
"We received the email [from the Midland Business Alliance], regarding the opportunity to help the community and to help ourselves. So, we jumped at it, and thought it was a great idea. It helps us out. It helps our team out...we like to give back to many charities. Anything we can help with, we try to," said Brien Duffy, Food and Beverage Manager of Bucks Run Golf Club. "It's vital to help our community. It's vital to help our staff," and this program allows the Quarry Grill to do exactly that.
The Quarry Grill plans to remain involved in the program as long as possible to help reduce the impact of food insecurity in our local community. A rotating menu of four different meals is currently in place, with delicious and nutritious entrees including lasagna, lemon pepper chicken breast, BBQ pork chops, and adobe chicken. At this time, the restaurant is supplying 100 meals per week, with plans to increase to 200 meals per week during the winter months, if needed.
