6 Tips for Newly Engaged Couples

How wonderful it is to begin planning your future with the one you love and begin your story together. Although being newly engaged is exciting, it is important to understand all the planning and preparation it takes to plan your wedding. As the Event Coordinator for Bucks Run Golf Club, I would like to offer you some helpful tips for planning your wedding.

Select a Date:

Typically, most engaged couples begin the planning process 9-12 months in advance of their desired wedding date. So first, take time to consider your wedding date. What is the weather normally like? Weather can be unpredictable, so it is important to really consider whether you want an indoor or an outdoor ceremony. Make sure to consider any close holidays or events that may affect your guests’ ability to attend, as well.

Once you have a date selected, it is time to determine your budget. Once you decide on your total budget, begin inquiring with multiple vendors, so you can compare the quality of services, what they offer, their fees, and their availability for your wedding. After your research is complete, consider expenses/costs for each vendor and determine what portion of your budget you are allotting for each. Ask about current specials or promotions. For example, at Bucks Run Golf Club, we are offering ½ off our banquet room fee for all 2019 weddings, booked after January 1, 2019!

Stay Organized:

Stay organized by using a binder with tabs for each of your vendors, timeline, guest list and photos of the flower arrangements, centerpieces and decor you are considering. Make sure to have your binder with you when meeting potential vendors, this way, you can share your ideas with them. This will help you select your vendors by knowing if they can recreate your vision. Once your vendors are selected, an organized binder such as this will allow you to keep track of each aspect of your wedding day.

Venue Selection:

One of the most exciting parts of planning your wedding is touring potential venues for your special day. Knowing how many guests you are expecting will help narrow down your search for the perfect venue. Make sure to consider venues that have the flexibility to accommodate any change in the number of guests you’re expecting. Did you assume 200 guests and now your guest list is closer to 300? Luckily, Bucks Run Golf Club features a waterfront Ceremony Site and Banquet Room, with gorgeous views of Lake Fisher, that can accommodate up to 300 guests.

Additional Vendors:

Need suggestions for other vendors? Work with your venue’s Event Coordinator by asking for suggestions, read online reviews, and gather multiple quotes so you can find the perfect vendor to fit your budget. At Bucks Run Golf Club, our Event Coordinator offers one-on-one assistance to help make the planning process as stress-free as possible.

Last Tip:

Enjoy your engagement. Celebrate and remember that even though the planning process can be overwhelming, you are going to be celebrating each other and the life you are beginning together. Don’t let the planning process overshadow the joy of your engagement. Plan a date night for just the two of you free from wedding planning to keep focused on each other. Some great date night ideas include dining at the Quarry Grill Restaurant, inside Bucks Run Golf Club, attending one of our many upcoming events, such as our upcoming Murder Mystery Dinner on Saturday, April 6th, or play in one of our Couples Night Out Golf Scrambles during the summer.
